Paradigm Shift: The Power of the Human Mind (2)

Text: 2 Kings 4:8-17

The Hebrew word translated into heart is also used interchangeably for soul – Nephesh (Hb) – The breath of God, the very life of God stored in the blood. (Gk.) Psuche – The life/breath of God.

The word Libab is also translated as heart and it means the innermost organ of the body. It actually means the very depth of one’s heart, which refers to the mind.

The spirit of a man is the part of him that enables him communicate with God. The spirit of a man can either be dead or alive, based on his relationship with God. The soul of a man is what gives him his uniqueness & individuality.

The mind is the connection between the spirit and the physical aspects of a man.

Information isn’t automatically assimilated into the subconscious mind; it has to be driven into it by experiential teaching and repetition.

All the learnt cultures and behaviours that have been received and accepted as true that you have committed to your subconscious is what you call paradigms.

2 Cor. 10:4-5 – What are strongholds? They are arguments, knowledge & thoughts that you hold on to and entertain in your mind. These are all parts of your paradigms. You don’t necessarily see with your eyes or hear with your ears, everything you assimilate into your being is filtered through your paradigms.

Luke 24:15-16 – Who did the “restraining”? In this case, it was the paradigms that the disciples held onto that stopped them from seeing that it was Jesus who was speaking to them.

Luke 18:31-34

Romans 12:2 (NLT) “Don’t copy the behaviour & customs of the world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”

According to the scripture in the previous paragraph, we can see that paradigms cannot be removed, only be replaced.

The transforming of the mind is important because the mind is the spectacle through which you view life. So, it’s important to transform your thoughts because they dictate your actions, your actions become your habits and your habits shape your character and your character shapes your life & its course.

You will never know the extent of a paradigm’s hold on you until you are confronted in that area of your life.

The things we spend our time on either strengthen or help replace our paradigms; this is why we need to be very careful in choosing what we spend our time on.
