The Spiritual DNA of Overtakers
Ministering: Pastor Tunde Bakare
Topic: The Spiritual DNA of Overtakers
Text: Psalm 37:23-25
Preamble:
2Tim. 1:8-9 à There are certain things that God did before time began, the devil can’t undo them in time (selah).
Psalm 19:7-14
What is “great transgression”? It’s to presume what isn’t true of God. To think you can get away with sin, that grace is a license for lasciviousness.
Every instance of presumption in the Bible ends with death (Num. 15:30)
God kept the best for last. Don’t pine for the “good old days”, instead create the “great last days”.
To stop reaping from bad seeds (trees), you need to sow good seeds.
{End of preamble}
There are two major themes to be addressed tonight:
1. The nature of your seed (your ground will be compelled to produce tonight).
2. Step by step methodology on how to recover from major devastation
This passage shows us the nature of seed à Gen. 1:20-29
Every creature that God created possesses seed & each seed produces after its own kind
1Pet. 1:22-25 – Two types of seed are seen in this passage:
· Corruptible (anything that comes from man’s fallen nature)
· Incorruptible (this comes from God’s nature)
Matt. 12:33, Psalm 1:1-3
A man is defined by the nature of seed he carries (and ultimately the fruit he produces).
Declaration: The grace to pursue, the strength to recover & the spiritual wherewithal to recover all without fail are in my genes.
Declaration: Every disappointment, loss or heartbreak you’ve suffered in life, isn’t
the end; but a long rope God has given to the devil to hang himself.
What’s the root of this gene that enables us pursue, overtake & recover all? God deposited this gene in Abraham (Gen. 14:1-16)
Psalm 18:28-42 à Evidence of the #PORA gene in David
Gal. 3:7-9, 26-29 à Shows the presence of the gene in believers
Step by step methodology on how to recover from major devastation:
1. Do thorough self-examination & repent (1 Sam. 30:4)
2. Learn to encourage yourself in the LORD when everyone around you is grieving (Heb. 10:31-39)
3. Seek God’s Word & counsel (Prov. 24:5-6)
4. Once the Word of God is clear, go in the strength of the LORD & realize that not all may go with you.
5. Help others in similar situations, those in the throes of death & devastation. Be sensitive to their conditions, God can turn around their situation & they may be the keys to your recovery.
6. Be magnanimous in victory
7. Build bridges that will connect you to your future & mend fences with those you’ve wronged (1Sam. 30:26-31)
Every overtaker must first be overtaken. God must, first overtake those who will seek to overtake. (Deut. 28:1-2)
The beginning God’s blessing is repentance, when you are totally yielded to God & your will isn’t in conflict with His. (Acts 3:18-26)
Declaration: I announce to you that you’re now overtaken by the grace of God. Go now & become an overtaker in Jesus’ name!
