The Blood
Ministering: Pastor I.S James
Topic: The Blood
Text: Lev. 17:11 – 12
From the text, we see that the life of a creature is in its blood & God commanded us not to eat blood.
For God to have forbidden the practice of eating blood, it’s very likely it was a practice amongst the people of those times.
In Gen. 12:2, God called Abraham out of his former way of life & instituted a new way of life through him.
In Lev 17:11, we see God forbids eating blood. There’s another purpose for the blood; it was to be used for atonement (a covering) of sin.
There’s a lot more to blood than what science tells & shows us. Even though scientists can create test tube babies, they can’t make the basic reproductive ingredients – the sperm & egg cells – themselves.
Looking at Adam’s fall into sin; once he fell he became conscious of his shortcomings. As a Christian, sin makes you self-conscious.
Prior to the fall, they were covered by God’s presence. When they lost God’s presence, they became conscious of their nakedness.
Gen 3:21 – God made a covering from an animal’s skin to cover them. An animal had to be slain for its skin & was probably still wet with blood.
God had to sacrifice an animal for their sin. The 1st sacrifice to cover man’s sin was made by God. Sin will always cost something’s life
(Gen 4:2 – 7) Why was Abel’s offering accepted & Cain’s own rejected? It’s most likely because Abel’s contained blood, but Cain’s didn’t
Their parents must have taught them the importance of blood sacrifices, Abel took this lesson seriously, but Cain considered it unimportant
Gen. 17:10-13, Ex. 2:23-24
These two passages show us the power of a blood covenant. It’s irrevocable, even God won’t forsake it.
The efficiency of the prayer you make is informed not by how loud you shout, but by the knowledge you have & base your prayer on.
Ex.12:13 – When it comes to a covenant, you can’t force a person into it, the people have to enter into & stay in it willingly.
Psalm 105:37 – One of the benefits of the blood covenant is that if you’re walking with God, you can’t live & operate in poverty.
Ask yourself – Is the blood signed over my household?
When you pray and “plead the blood of Jesus”, don’t just say it by rote or recite like an incantation, but know you’re invoking the power in the very life of God
God has supplied the blood, it’s Our responsibility to apply it to our lives. Let’s APPLY WHAT GOD HAS SUPPLIED
