Repentance Must Precede Recovery
Ministering: Pastor Tunde Bakare
Topic: Repentance Must Precede Recovery
Text: 1 Sam 30:1-8
Prophetic Declaration: Open your doors & open your hearts for the mighty men are about to come in.
It is possible to pursue & overtake your adversaries, but fail to recover anything.
When the LORD says, “you will surely overtake”, it means He will slow your adversaries down for your sake.
In consulting God before embarking on his pursuit of the Amalekites, David was exhibiting his dependence on God. You are meant to be totally dependent on God; an independent spirit is a demonic spirit.
James 2:10-12
Prayer: May the LORD bring us to the place of righteousness-consciousness.
Psalm 89:1-4, 19-21
The investment God has made in you is what is keeping you going. God wants a return on investment.
In the passage of scripture we’ve read (1Sam 30:1-8), did David repent? Yes, he did. The place of crying & weeping was his place of repentance. If he hadn’t truly repented, God wouldn’t have answered him (Psalm 66:18)
What are the fruits of true repentance in David’s life?
2Sam 1:1-6, 1Chron. 12:1-2, 20
We see from these passages that David had made a total volte-face from his former way of life. In the past he was raiding towns, stealing from and killing their inhabitants, but he exhibited he’d turned from this lifestyle when he turned down the chance to rejoice in & benefit from Saul’s death.
If there’s a hole in your armour, you can’t pursue, overtake & recover
The enemy wants what we want as well. He wants to pursue us, overtake us & take all that we have. (Ex. 14:8-10; 15:9-10)
There are 2 lessons for us here tonight:
1. You can pursue & overtake in life, but still meet your waterloo.
2. Only those made by God cannot be plundered by the enemy (simply put – if God hasn’t made you, the enemy can plunder you).
