PRESS RELEASE: Nigeria’s leadership should do what is Right – Pastor Iruofagha S. James

The General Overseer of Glory Christian Ministries, Lagos, Pastor Iruofagha James, has said, “This is the time for Churches in Nigeria and Nigerians to rejoice and begin to believe again. If there was any doubt about the future and spiritual significance of this country, the almighty God has made that clear in the events of the just concluded general elections. Against all negative predictions, the Most High who rules in the affairs of men had the last say. And our hearts are filled with praise and gratitude”.

Just as we prayed relentlessly, and God heard us, we ought to sing endless Hallelujahs to our God for seeing us through the frightening times in our national history. I believe this transition to be a fresh start for Nigeria, was made possible by God through individuals, governments and organizations, foreign and domestic, he said.

Stating that, as we begin the count down to the start of the new government, Nigerians should realize that this country has always had the misfortune of being ruled by individuals who refused to do the right thing when it mattered most. One more of such was the last presidential election, when no one could say there would still be a country called Nigeria. Through the prayers of many, one man decided against all odds to walk away from the familiar terrain of greed, pride and arrogance. Nigerians must never take for granted that the peace we presently enjoy in this country is chiefly because one man -President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan decided to do what was right. He may not have done many things right during his presidency tenure, but there is no single Nigerian who is not grateful that he got this one right. Anybody can jump up and rejoice over an electoral victory, but it takes maturity, self restraint and some guts to manage failure and disappointment at any given time. Mr. President has taking a bow to earn the respect of true lovers of this country not blinded by partisan bigotry, and the world at large.

He said, beginning from May 29th, the victorious Muhammadu Buhari also have the chance to do what is right. He now has the chance to prove to Nigerians why he relentless wanted to become the president of this country. As one of the very few people ever given the opportunity to lead this great country twice in one lifetime, I pray history will record him as the only one who did things right, and save Nigeria from another disappointment. We pray that God will give him the courage and wisdom to stand against spiritual, political or financial pressures, so that longsuffering Nigerians may heave a sigh of relief.

Pastor James described Nigerians as resilient people who are generally not tribalistic, but ready to follow any leader that can provide their basic needs not minding the tribe or religion and if the incoming president, Muhammadu Buhari will stay true to all that has been touted as his best qualities, in a very short time he will succeed in disabusing the minds of over 12 million Nigerians who did not vote for him during the last general election, and also see that ordinary Nigerians are willing to follow any leader from any place or religion who is willing to make their interest his job description. He enjoined Christians pray for the success of incoming administration of Muhammadu Buhari.

Lamenting that, the greatest treasure of Nigeria is not the vast oil fields of the Niger Delta or the untapped deposits of uranium, butimen, gold, copper, etc scattered across the country, but the vastness of the best brains scattered across the globe – in every field of human endeavor. Many whom do not care about the political party that won the election, but their readiness to contribute to the building of their fatherland, so that they can hold their heads high and declare their nationality in any part of the world they have taken refuge. The All Progressive Congress (APC) like other political parties have done well in organizing, planning, politicking and campaigning to get their candidates elected during the last general election. They provide the platform for individuals to offer themselves for service as constitutionally demands, and should now allow those whom Nigerians have chosen to govern them. The in-coming president, Muhammadu Buhari will do what is right to break the jinx where the best of us has for too long been ruled by the worst amongst us. Enough, credible, proven and detribalized professionals abound within and outside this country.

Nigerians are privy to enormous challenges awaiting the incoming government at all levels. Months of unpaid salaries, reckless corruption and thoughtless loans by greedy government officials to support their extravagant lifestyle could prove a match for the best managerial minds. All Nigerians are asking for, is exemplary leadership to lead the way, so that decisions as removal of petroleum subsidies and others can be taken soon to move the country out of her economic doldrums, he said.

While wishing President-elect Muhammadu Buhari and all elected officials the best, Pastor James reminded them to always do what is right before God and man at all times and warned that, generations unborn are counting on them as Nigerians cannot wait forever to see the CHANGE they voted for, manifesting in form of stable electricity and foreign exchange rate, security of lives and properties, improved educational and health systems etc.
