In the middle of difficulties lie opportunities – Albert Einstein
We must take advantage of the vast opportunities hiding in our seemingly undesirable situation as a nation.
There are business openings in the Business, health, hospitality and information technology sectors etc.
Our population size in Nigeria presents a huge business clientelle.
Our economy size is currently valued at $510billion (about N83+ trillion) and this present great huge need for goods and services
Focusing on the ‘wrongs’ disallows you to see the progress being made and the good therein. In the last 16years, Nigeria has achieved great milestones in democratic governance
Now that the all the negative expectations have failed, world business traffic has started to pour into Nigeria again.
In Vision 2020, Ngeria aspires to be the 20th largest economy in the world moving from 510billion dollars to 900billion dollars. It’s all about opportunities.
You must be ready to work. ‘Faith without works is death’ – James 2:17
What do we need to do to get where we want to be?
Information, networking and financing
AGRICULTURE: There is vast opportunity in the Agricultural sector: poultry, cassava farming, bread production etc
Due to expanded business opportunities in this sector, a huge number of people are now participating: buying and selling, equipment operators etc
HOSPITALITY: Due to huge business and economic potentials in Nigeria that are now ready to be tapped, there is an influx of foreigners into the country hence the hospitality is greatly expanding.
You don’t necessary need money 1st to prosper but good and bankable ideas
For all this expansions that are emerging, there would be need for service providers, suppliers etc
The average occupancy of Nigerian hotels is about 85% every day.
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY: Nigeria is a huge GSM market. We are currently the largest subscriber of internet services in Africa today. Sadly, most of the subscription by individuals is underutilized. We must seek to make good returns on every investment.
Many IT proficient individuals are queueing up for jobs when they can create and run their own businesses.
All the sales platform that we are seeing today in Nigeria: Jumia, Konga, Dealdey etc are all riding on IT framework
Examples
JOBBERMAN.COM
Some years ago, 3young undergraduates while their school was on strike rather that remaining idle brought up an an idea of linking job seekers to employers who have vacancies. This marked the beginning of Jobberman.com, now a very successful HR consultancy firm riding on the Information technology framework. Interstingly you don’t have to be an IT expert to run initiate something like this
CALL CENTRE SERVICES
These are bodies that arose to add value by being intermediaries between business organisations and their customers to receive and manage complaints, enquiries etc on their behalf. You can do this with minimal physical assets riding well on your IT platform.
There are innumerable opportunities on the IT platform
THE HAULAGE INDUSTRY
The capacity is currently well over 20billion dollars
You can undertake to provide trucks for haulaging companies, being the intermediaries between those who have the trucks and those who require the services
There are government opportunities through idea development agencies like YOUWIN, BOI and many are not taking advantage of the opportunities
Let’s do more to be business providers rather than subscribers
