Financial Wellness

Text: Psalm 92:12-15

God intends to do us well and wants the story of our lives to be determined by the passage of scripture we have just read.

Recently, we have come to the conclusion that money is an incredibly important part of life. We have transited to the place we are now where we acknowledge money as being important from where we used to be where we though having money and following God were mutually exclusive.

Eccl. 10:19

As a child growing up I was curious about why some older people I came into contact with were financially secure and many were not. What made it even stranger was some of these people were friends when they were younger, I wondered when their paths diverged. The problem is that I see many people heading down the same way right now.

We are surrounded by the desperation of people to make money, by hook or by crook. The money situation in the world is real and significant.

Many people are in situations that resulted from their not having planned for the possibility of certain circumstances.

Matt. 6:24

Very few people are able to manage the balance between serving God and wanting money. It’s important for us as Christians to define and develop the right kind or relationship with money or else it will sabotage our relationship with God. The lack of money is standing in the way of most people’s relationships with God.

Some attributes that must represent a Christian and his relationship with money & God

1. Our attitude (one’s tendency and orientation) towards money.
   • The biggest obstacle Christians are facing is the set/position/organisation of our minds towards money. In many cases it’s not in sync with what God expects of us.
   • Many Christians have an adversarial relationship with God as regards money, they seem to believe that God wants to con them out of their
   • A question I have often asked of myself was how the patriarchs of the Bible developed their attitudes towards God and money that God was able to boast of them.

Gen. 14:18-20; 18:1-10; 4:1-7

• Abraham’s response to God upon his return from securing a great victory in battle was to bless God.
• Abraham’s response to God passing by his home was for him to be enthusiastic about making God a meal. He saw giving to God as an opportunity. This was what made God decide to confide in him.
• In order to sort ourselves out here we need to amend our thinking about money and God.

2. Know whom you are in God.
   • Have the assurance that God is for you and on your side.
