Our text this morning is in the aftermath of the great flood. Imagine what the scenes of death & destruction Noah would have seen upon leaving the ark.
Noah’s first act of freewill upon disembarking from the ark was to offer a sacrifice to God. He took from the clean animals that God had asked him to take on the ark.
Noah thought about God first & made a sacrifice to God & not what his family would eat. He gave a sacrificial offering.
There are two things that God did in response to Noah’s sacrifice:
- He made a commitment (He committed never to curse the ground again for man’s sake).
- He made a declaration. (A declaration that maintains the systems that sustain & replenish life on the earth)
Of the 4 things that God said won’t cease, 3 of them impact our lives without our intervention:
- Cold & Heat
- Day & Night
iii. Winter & Summer (Seasons)
It’s only sowing & reaping that requires our participation. Sowing doesn’t refer to money alone, it affects every area of our lives.
We sow in 3 basic ways:
- Our actions
- Our choices
iii. Our attitudes
Let’s talk a little about the nature of the seed.
Looking at the creation story, we can extract three important things that pertain to seedtime & harvest:
- On the 1st day, God dealt with separating order from chaos, by separating darkness from light. Another way of defining creation (apart from forming & shaping) is the separation of darkness from light.
- On the 3rd day, God created seeds & the seed-principle that sustains life on earth.
- If your life is going to be sustained, there has to be something in you that’s planted to bring forth increase.
- On the 6th day, God created man & gave him dominion over all other creation.
God created us to be His sons. Sons of God are those who are obedient to Him & submitted to His authority.
The importance of the seed:
Of the 4 things listed in Gen. 8:22, seedtime & harvest is the only one that requires our participation. This is the way God has given us a say as concerns what will happen in our future.
Nothing in life just happens, you have to sow the seeds for the things you desire to happen.
The power of the seed is that it gives you the ability to determine your future.
The quality of the seed:
The quality of your seed determines the quality of your harvest. A good seed will give you a good harvest & a poor seed, gives you a poor harvest as well. (Gen. 30: 41-42)
To a large extent, you are a representation of the seed you sowed yesterday.
Matt 13:38
You are either a tare or you’re wheat. Are you a good seed that chooses to work towards making things better or are you a tare that complains and gossips?
Prayer: You will prosper & see peace in your life. You are a good seed and you will bring forth increase in Jesus’ name.
